I watched tonight's Simpsons' HD episode and wow, it was beautiful and almost like the movie in DLP (probably the same for BluRay :P).
Did anyone notice the music was really soft, but the sound effects and voices were loud? This is noticeable in the new introduction. I wonder if my 4.1 speaker was wacked or FOX was having issues?

I wish I had a high definition TV or that they would broadcast it in letterbox format, for those who don't have one. I didn't like not being able to see the sides that were cut off on my 4:3 TV. It was a good episode, otherwise.

It was aired in letterbox. Either your local Fox affiliate took the initiative on their own to "center-cut" it, or your TV/tuner is set to zoom instead of letterbox.

For me, the whole episode was very soft sound-wise. I had to turn the volume up to around 20, and I rarely have it above 10. Of course, when I stopped the DVR and it was still on a commercial, the windows in my house blew out.

In San Francisco, we're getting these episodes in 4:3 and not 16:9. Simpsons and KotH are both 16:9 (if I recall from downloads) but the broadcasts are not, it's lame to watch the Simpsons and see it cropped. Any ideas why affiliates are doing this?

(It may be happening on your cable company's end too, assuming you're on cable. Someone here last week was watching Fox 5 NY via their local cable and saw it presented in a center-cut (4:3), even though I was watching the same channel through DirecTV and got it letterboxed.)

Ten (Australia) showed The X Files Movie the other night, something I'd wanted to see, and they did the same 'centre-cut' thing, which ruined it because X Files has a lot of captions on the left side of the screen, which were almost completely cut off. Ten must be run by aliens (or idiots)
