Letter Significance in Episode Codes?

Can anyone tell me what the significance is of the letters in the episode codes are eg. DABF04 ?? thanx pete

I'll field this one. (how can someone whose shirt says...)

They just mean what season the episodes were produced for. Only 7G actually has all its episodes in one season; the rest have about 2-5 that overlap into the next. As well, they're not necessarily shown in production order, so you can't make the numbers in the production codes line up with the nth episode in a season. It takes a little while to get used to them, but after you do, it's pretty helpful. Not counting the overlaps...

7G season 1 7F season 2 8F season 3 9F season 4 1F season 5 2F season 6 3F season 7 4F season 8 5F season 9 AABF season 10 BABF season 11 CABF season 12 DABF season 13...and so on. (interestingly, if you add up the alphanumeric values of the letters in those, they come out to the season most of those episodes air in.) There are also four 3G episodes that were produced by Al Jean and Mike Reiss along with the 3Fs, but didn't air till later. 3G01 (the springfield files) and 3G03 (simpsoncalifragil....) aired during season 8, and 3G02 (lisa's sax) and 3G04 (simpson tide) aired in season 9.

So there you have it.
