"Mother Simpson" -- Very heartfelt and poignant. "Homer the Clown" -- "And two your change, and we thank you" is so abrupt that you can't help but laugh.

"The Great Money Caper" -- The surfing thing was probably supposed to be hip and silly but it really just screamed incompetence.

i interpreted the ending to "The Great Money Caper" totally different. i thought it was hilarious. cause the audience is expecting some sort of full-circle explanatory funny ending and the writers know that and decided to play on it and instead threw the conclusion out the window and appealed to the lowest common denominator - a commentary (among other things) i think on the low standards of what passes as entertaining tv today.
They've been doing this a lot lately, probably due to their dependence on far-out, fat-fetched, and preposterous plots. Take the episode when Bart begins taking drugs for his ADD:
"Do you want to know the sinister secret- or watch me do some zinger?"
and of course the PBS episode where instead of finishing off the plot, cut to Betty White explaining that it is all a TV show.

Jockey elves wreaks of incompetence. That was absolutely one of the worst endings. Kill the Alligator and Run was terrible there are more, but I don't want to relive them.
IIRC people who attended the "thing"- (I use that term because I don't have a better one to describe it) in Toronto where some of the writers spoke to a crowd- reported that even the writers claimed they screwed up the Saddlesore Gallactica ep.
Don't quote me exactly on that. I think Aaron Hirshberg attended, but I don't remember exactly who was talking about this in the thread.
