I don't know if this has been brought up, but in episode 2F15 (Lisa's Wedding), there is a conversation between Moe and Hugh (Lisa's fianc�) in 2010 that goes like this:

Moe: Oho, an English boy, huh? You know, we saved your ass in World War II. Hugh: Yeah, well, we saved _your_ arse in World War III. Moe: [conciliatory] That's true.

And by the way current events is going, we seem to be entering a World War III, with the British pledging full support for the US.

An interesting side note: In the capsule for 2F15 (http://www.snpp.com/episodes/2F15.html), there is an argument as to which airport Lisa and Hugh used to fly to England. One side said they used Boston's Logan International Airport and the other side said they used

There was more than 1 reference to World War III. A Tracey Ullman short was also called "World War III" and features several different drills on faking it.
