Next Season: How about an episode about academic team/quiz bowl/scholars bowl. Saved By the Bell did an episode about it, so how about the Simpsons doing one also!

REVIEW: Probably one of the best episodes I have seen this season. Cute, funny, smart (hey didn't I say this about 30 minutes ago) Lisa's head on the mountain (the Muderhorn, possibly) was a little of a stretch, but so was the esclator that went to nowhere in [9F10] Marge vs. the Monorail. At least now Lisa can go to college, even though we all know that she will end up going to a co-educational one where she will meet Hugh a la [2F15] Lisa's Wedding. Maybe she will end up at Radcliffe or Vassar (the two of the 7 sisters that are coed), even though she has bashed Vassar in the past. Oh well. It was a really good hour of the Simpsons tonight, and even though a couple of years ago I said that I thought there was no way the show would get out of its funk, it kinda did. It is still one of the best shows on TV, and tonight proved why. GRADE: A-

Requiem for a dream (movie)

Homer's first Ribwich trip directly referenced the "hip-hop montage" technique used by director Darren Aronofsky for this movie about addiction. When the three younger characters in the movie shoot heroin, we see close-ups of the drug being taken, the junkies' pupils expanding (actually an error, as they should contract) and cells expanding inside a vein. This sequence repeats rapidly several times each time the characters abuse heroin. The technique is meant to underscore the uncontrollably repetitive and monotonous nature of addiction. I'm really glad that the writers didn't try to make this reference glaringly obvious, as they've done in the past. One imagines Homer saying, "Hey, this is just like that movie, 'Requiem for a Dream!'"

yeah I just saw that movie recently and totally forgot about that scene. I am a huge Darren A. fan. The first time I saw Pi I thought it was the most pretentious movie ever made, but after repeated viewings and hearing his director's commentary on IFC, I think that is a truly amazing movie. I think that the movie is cool too because it talks about the Kabala (sp), Go, and number theory.

Would be cool if the Simpsons did a spin on that movie too. Maybe Frink could be the guy that drills a hole in his head after finding the meaning of life... Hmmmm Treehouse of horror 14 maybe?
