SIMPSONS ARE BULLSHIT!!!

The Simpsons are not THAT good anymore... they're still somewhat funny, but they lack the whole package that made them so great in the early-mid seasons.

The Simpsons never were only a funny show.. they were true social icons and a source of entertainment and social commentary on many different levels. Right now, they're only... well, *funny*. Alright, who am I kidding? The Simpsons are fucking bullshit these days. Where's the biting social commentary? Where are the hilarious one-liners which made the show legendary?.Where's the realistic edge the show had in earlier seasons? Where the fuck are the satirical writers which made this, indeed, OFF?

If it's true that The Simpsons are saying goodbye after their 16th season, I'll be very sad if they go out on this note. I just wish that at least the next couple of seasons, they come back to their early writing ways, giving us CLASSIC and WITTY episodes we'll forever remember in our hearts. Bring back the old school of writing!!! Enough of episodes about Marge's boobs, singing worms, Skinner being a fake, and tennis courts. Bring back the CLASSICS, when The Simpsons were the best show ever.

Well, "Large Marge" did attempt to draw attention to the issue of breast augmentation and liposuction and how society views women as subjects of sexual fetishization vis-a-vis male phallocentric objectification. It also peripherally raised awareness of the problem of unnecessary surgery and the growing incidences of malpractice by improperly trained and certified plastic surgeons. The episode also taught us the importance of proper elephant training and the inherent risks associated with having one's head stuck in an elephant's mouth (cf. "Human Heads, Elephant Orifices: Can We Afford the Risk?," Report of the National Safety Council to the Congressional Safety Committee 2001.)

these are still there. there is still good satire, there are stilll good one-liners etc, but the general quality of the show has decreased. it's not a complete switch to slapstick and sex jokes as many people have implied, just a steady decrease in the overall quality

Personally, I think the Simpsons are encountering a totally new problem to TV shows: character stagnation. The Simpsons have not changed or aged a single day in 14 years. There's only so much you can do with characters who never change. Most long running shows have characters who grow and change, or they introduce new characters as the show progresses (MASH is an excellent example of both, explaining why it was still a highly rated show when the series was ended).

Not that I'm pushing for a new "Roy", but how many more possible plotlines can exploit Homer's stupidity, Bart's naughtiness, Lisa's intelligence, Marge's aloofness, Flanders' religious fervor, Burns' greediness or Milhouse's nerdiness?

Although the characters themselves do not appear to age, there personalities have changed from the beginning of the show. The characters who have changed the most are Homer and Bart. Homer went from being the big dumb idiot to being a "ragoholic" and Bart has gone from being a heartless badass who didn't care about anyone but himself to a person with a heart, as seen by his interactions with others in episodes like This Little Wiggy, Bart the Mother, Lisa on Ice, 'Round Springfield, The Boy Who Knew too Much, Marge Be not Proud, The Canine Mutiny and his struggles with his conscience.
