If white people in the Simpsons universe are yellow, shouldn't people of other skin colors (like black or red) also turn into weird colors, like blue or purple?

Nah, yellow is way closer to white (caucasian?) than blue or purple are to the other shade of skin. Besides, they already do that on "Doug".
Except on Doug, all the white people have realistic skin tones and everybody else is strangely colored. And the colors don't seem really tied to anything. There's too many of them, for one thing. And then Roger has green skin and red hair. Mostly only white people have red hair.
This is offtopic, but the skin colors on Doug have always confused and intrigued me. Sorry.

Smithers was black in one episode when the animators accidentally colored him the wrong color. He never was before, and hasn't been since. Hans Moleman, on the other hand, has changed back and forth between black and white several times. I think he started out as black, but now is white. I don't know what the deal is with him.
