The Powerpuff Girls is an animated series that airs on Cartoon Network. Originally a student film by Craig McCracken named "The Whoop-Ass Girls", the Powerpuff Girls first appeared on Cartoon Network in 1995 as part of a program that aired original cartoons. Then, it became a regular series in 1998, and it is currently one of the most popular shows on the network (if you ignore Futurama, the anime shows, and the adult-themed parodies of old Hanna-Barbera shows).

The show centers around three kindergarten girls who, due to Chemical X being mixed in with sugar, spice, and everything nice, have super powers which they use in order to fight crime in the city of Townsville. The show's success can be traced to a concept that both boys and girls can like, it's anime-style character designs, and various pop-culture references (including one episode where four of the regular villains on the show join together to become a crime group that mocks the Beatles).
