is it just me, or it this group getting more and more negative and bitchy every day? i thought this was for people who APPRECIATED the simpsons. most of what i see is posts dwelling on things they hate.
some of you "fans" need to lighten up and enjoy the bright spot on the television dial.

I don't think it's more one than the other; it does seem that for every "lighten up" thread there is an equal and opposite "darken down" thread. Both are productive and welcome in this group.

Actually, it's alt.tv.simpsons, not alt.fan.simpsons (or whatever), so it's really for discussion of the show, whether good or bad. Granted, most people here are (or at least were) fans of the show, but there are episodes (and sometimes entire seasons) that people just don't like, and I'd say this is an appropriate place for airing those opinions. I DO think that some people are overly negative (I mean, if you really think it's NEVER good, just stop watching it), but the people who come in and say, "It's just a cartoon! You should like anything the show throws at you, regardless of quality!" are just as annoying as those who turn in "worst episode ever" reviews week after week.
