What is the significance of Charles Kuralt being the one who Homer thought dug up his garden in the Stonecutters episode?

probably one of those super-inside jokes that's only funniest to the writers. Maybe one of the writers had a run in with Charles Kuralt, or he was his hero, or he just really really really likes him....who knows.

I might have to disagree here. While I am not positive of why Kuralt, I am pretty sure it is a reference to his "America" series, where he drove around the country being America's nosy uncle, talking about the warm family moments of their lives. To think there is a dark side to this (like digging up a garden) is kind of amusing to me. So I think it was a little more than random, but not quite so strong as to be really "getable".

Does that makes sense, or are these the ramblings of a delusional mind? Sometimes I can't tell.
