Better with age....

In reading some recent posts, as well as others over time, I have noticed something I would like to bring out further. Simpsons episodes get better with time. Someone recently just said that they age like a fine wine. I couldn't agree with this more. The third or fourth viewing of a Simpsons always brings new laughs and a greater appreciation. Even episodes of questionable quality, (last night's FOX 5 NY repeat of a certain singing jockey episode comes to mind) can still bring out a new laugh, a new chuckle, etc etc. So, my solution, which will never be accepted in a billion, trillion years (possibly longer) is too hold reviews until the first showing in syndication or the 4th viewing from a videotaped copy. So to re-hash this rambling post in 2 points:

1. Simpsons get better with age 2. Hold the "worst episode ever" comments, reviews, et al until multiple viewings because (see number 1)

I agree with you so far that certain episodes get better with time but others don�t or get even worse if you watch it more often (at least according to my own expierence.)

Mediocre episodes like "Praiseland" which have potential and good lines can get better with time, especially when I try to see the good in them (e.g. the satire and emotional part in "Praiseland") while other really bad episodes like the horrible Alligator crap or "Nerdie" or "Safari" just get worse and worse every time I see it again and it never stops to be annoying.

I think you�re partly right but it depends on the episode. I�d say really bad episodes don�t get better with time but others do.

I've never experienced an episode getting worse through watching it a number of times, although I can see that if it was an episode that you particularly didn't like this might happen.

Certainly I enjoy re-watching episodes and I do agree that sometimes they seem to get better as you notice the more subtle jokes or details that you didn't notice the first time.

I was also wondering, is there anything else that anyone thinks increases their enjoyment of watching OFF as well as watching episodes again and again? I'm asking as I always enjoy watching more when I'm with a bunch of my friends rather than on my own, and it is quite often a social thing to have people over for a drink and watch a few episodes, as most of my friends are also big fans of the show.

Yes, the episodes get better with age as well as alcohol.

I had that experience when I watched the repeat of Simpson Safari. This was just after three months. Please, someone hit me for giving that ep. an A+. Diamond mining monkeys don't get an A+.

Yes. Everytime I see that one of the older episodes is on, I enthusiastically watch the whole thing again. I even laugh as loud as ever at some of the gags. But with the lousy episodes, as soon as I realize what it is, I turn it off. there are only so many episodes that one can watch ten times over and be satisfied with. TVNZ has an annoying habit of rerunning simpson's episodes every friggin day at 6pm and the even more annoying habit of sometimes screening the same episode twice in one week! GET IT FUCKING SORTED!
