what state would you think the simpsons' Springfield might be in...and some reason(s) to back up the claim.

I would say Kentucky because they state it plainly in one that one episode that was like a documentary showing the Simpsons' supposed real lives off-camera, but that could've been a joke like the "NRA4EVER" cash register thing.

Uh..I think everyone else here knows, but I'll just point out, that there are two endings to that episode, one with "Northern Kentucky" given as their home, and one with "Missouri". SO it is a joke, and the whole question will never ever ever be answered..
