The other day The History Channel had a documentary called, approximately "The Wrecking Ball". I saw the previews, and a small portion of the actual show. It vaguely reminded me of one of our all time favorite Fox TV shows, "When Buildings Collapse". All they showed was a bunch of buildings being imploded, or knocked down with wrecking balls.

The best part was when the buildings fell down.
Nah. I've seen buildings come down live in person. Heck, I was even in one a mere 45 minutes before it collapsed. Of course, it took an airplane to do it.

The Discovery Channel has a "Shark Week" series of documentaries that they used to show every year. We have discussed the other funny made up Fox shows that are mentioned on the Simpsons in the past. They include "When Skirts Fall Off", and "The Boring World of Niehls Bohr".
My favorite is the Discovery Channel documentary about dung. Yes, dung. Don't be eating dinner while you are watching it. In fact, don't be eating dinner during the previews for the show, either.

There's a difference: the FOX show was sheer exploitation. The History Channel specal was somewhat educational, delving into the history of the demolition industry and the physics and operational planning surrounding it.

Chris, you have my sympathies with your close call on 9/11. However, the Simpsons episode where they watched "When Buildings Collapse", and the History Channel documentary "Wrecking Ball", have enough in common to be examples of the type of humor that we write about in this ng. Both of these TV shows are events that have nothing to do with the terrorist attacks. In fact, "When Buildings Collapse" was shown on the Simpsons years before 9/11.

Hold up. My mentioning of the fact that I was a witness to a collapsing building was in itself a joke. I'm not going to become psychotic every time someone mentions something similar to what happened on 9/11. Jeez, I'm a Simpsons fan. We find humor in everything. It is unfortunate that the USA was attacked by terrorists last year. However, one of the traditions in this ng is to make fun of real life events that imitate events depicted on the Simpsons. The Simpsons once watched a Fox show called "When Buildings Collapse", and the History Channel recently had a documentary called "Wrecking Ball", which is essentially the same thing.
