Simpsons' Season Premier Party date?

I've been having a Simpsons' Season Premier Party for the past few years, and I see the first new episode is Sept 11th this year - is this really the beginning of the new season? Anyone have any insight on this?

By the way...the word is "premiere". A "premier" is the head of state of a country.
