Time to Count the Doughnuts

By Sam Roberts and Griffin Palmer

If your eyes glazed over at revelations that Hillary Rodham Clinton used $1,200 from her campaign war chest to splurge on Dunkin' Donuts http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/22/us/politics/22clinton.html , that expense turns out to be just the icing on the cake.

An hourlong investigation by The New York Times has found, in the 10 months ending in January, that the Clinton campaign reported expenditures of $1,884.83 at Dunkin' Donuts in New Hampshire and Florida (which she won) and in Virginia (which she didn't), and $504.02 at Krispy Kreme stores in South Carolina (which she also lost). So much for dollars to doughnuts. Or just desserts.

Her bakery bills totaled $5,950.53 (at Dunkin' prices, about 12,000 doughnuts). Andrea Rowell, assistant manager at the Dunkin' Donuts in Concord, N.H., where the campaign spent $273 one day last month, said the workers ordered coffee, too. "It wasn't just doughnuts," she said.

The second biggest bakery spender was Christopher J. Dodd: $3,301.22 in Washington and Jersey City. Barack Obama's campaign invested $723.64 at a dozen Dunkin' Donuts outlets and $1,877.28 at all bakeries. John Edwards dipped into his coffers for $253.04 at Dunkin'.

Among the Republicans, John McCain trailed Mitt Romney -- $923.70 to $992.91 -- in Dunkin' Donuts bills, but spent $116.79 on Krispy Kremes in Reno, Nev., to put him ahead. Ron Paul's doughnut bills totaled $108.07. Rudolph W. Giuliani's campaign didn't itemize doughnuts, but listed a $5,100 bill at Bouchon Bakery in Las Vegas.

Bill Clinton was known not only as our first black President, but the first Fast Food President, meaning he was just a regular Joe Sixpack.

Looks as though Mr. Clinton may be required to return that "first black President" honor, though.

First black Republican President, our best Republican President, etc. Chris Rock said "the way Clinton is being second guessed by everyone, you'd think he was black."

As for "Joe Sixpack", Andrew Jackson was that kind of guy. But there were no Aluminum cans back in Andrew's day. "Andy one barrel."?

Why? Barack Obama will be our 2nd black President.

Well, you'll have to ask Mr. Obama, but he's not settling for being 2nd to Hillary, and I don't think he'll want to be second to Bill.

I wonder if what appears to be Bill Clinton is a bioduplicated version of Itchy. That would explain Itchy/Hillary '08.

I'm not sure Mr. Obama qualifies as black. Well, maybe black "lite"...

Trust me, he's black--so am I. I like the fact that he told Louis Unfairrakhan where to get off and the fact that neither he nor McCain has ever played the race card--while Billary has. That doesn't mean that I would vote for him or McCain, since I am an Independent (Perot punches a hole in his lid as he reads this). I would vote for Ralph Wiggum or Kang, or best of all, Sideshow Bob, before I would vote for either Democrat or McCain.

Maybe it wasn't a spray-on tan. Maybe he got that tan at that resort that doesn't allow photographs.

So, Hillary would make people think of her as a Jane Sixpack by utilizing fast food places?

Why? I must have missed something in the news?
