What was the point in having Homer and the other guy picking up motorcycles and fighting with them? Was it supposed to be funny or dramatic or something? Right, because I can't understand it, it just seems to be really stupid, especially with Marge picking one up and handing it to Homer. What am I missing here?

I concur IMNSHO I think the fight scene almost ruined an other wise great show. The second half of the show was an almost direct take from a 1970 biker movie C. C. and Company. In the movie the bad guys took Ann Margaret and Joe Namath had to get her back. The head bad guy said we will decide this with choppers. But instead of dueling they raced stretched out harleys on a running track they broke into. kinda cool scene,bad guy crashed, Joe got the girl, the end. the Simpsons should have followed the script. Other wise I loved that show.
Now that you mention it, yeah the rest of the episode was pretty good, pretty funny.

I think the scene was just a sendup of ridiculous fight scenes in movies.

They were making fun of movies with sword fights. Both Homer and the bad guy leader use motorcycles like they were swords. It is funny because the motorcycles would be too heavy to swing around like swords.

The joke was; they were dueling with these huge motorcycles that they couldn't possibly (in real life) pick up. Marge throwing the bike up to Homer accentuated the visual gag; it's like when someone is dueling and drops their sword - someone else throws it back to them so they can continue the duel. It's a play on that cliche. It's actually a decent ep.
