Julie Kavner's Future

Seeing Milkboy's thread, and also considering an odd sounding voice in a recent episode, I am starting to wonder if Julie Kavner may quit the show depending on how long the show has been on and wondering if that has started to get to her.

I mean, she doesn't want to participate in "In the Flesh" recitals of episodes, and was not happy with James Lipton. Of course, when the cast was asking for a raise years ago, she was the only one who didn't really care how much she made. I mean, is she feeling like she resents ever being part of one of the greatest shows ever?

Personally, she should be happy, considering what she makes with each episode despite not playing a popular character. But it's starting to seem to me like she won't be voicing Marge much longer, and I don't know who else would.

I'm guessing Kavner just prefers to stay out of the spotlight, and that the fan obsession is probably a little intimidating to her. I think she's signed through the next couple of seasons, after which I'm guessing the show will end and transition to the big screen (she's also signed for the potential movies). I do think she's pretty much irreplaceable, especially since female voices tend to be more difficult to imitate than male ones.

Well, what about Mary Kay Bergman, who was always bright and chipper while voicing the characters in South Park and then, one night in November 1999, went home and shot her brains out.

If that were Kavner's deal, she wouldn't be so quiet and such in public. Ever see interviews with MKB? She was always perky in them.

I think Julie Kavner just doesn't want to be known only for Marge. She was an actress before she did voice overs, and still acts in movies as well.

Yeah, but does she get any work outside of working for Woody Allen?

OMG you seriously couldn't tell the difference between MKB and the, what? two or three new girls I think it is doing voices (Eliza Schneider/Mona Marshall). The voices, to me, are quite butchered, but you do what you gotta do to keep the show going I guess...

Yeah, MKB did this I think it was late November 1999. Her husband put up a wonderful memorial site on the internet to her, its really neat, makes me sad every time I go there. There were quotes from Matt and Trey about this at the time, but since the Comedy Central site has been revamped several times since then, I doubt the section on MKB is left up anymore. This very much reminds me of a Television presenter here in the UK. On our local ITV station (HTV west) in the 80's when tv presenters were actually in front a camera. We had a very churpy woman presenter who was very popular and you see that she was on the way up. By the 1990 she was presenting local news until in 1991 she died.

It had appeared later, that when doing the live presentations there would be long periods of doing nothing waiting for the next slot. In this time she had been sniffing gas and then ended on hard drugs(now we know why she was so churpy). She had beleived to have died in some kind of sex act with breath control.

I disagree. Major character voices like those of OFF, Burns, Skinner, Krabappel, etc. would be very difficult to pull off regardless of gender. Some of the lesser known ones like Maude were slightly easier to replace, but only because they only appeared for a few lines a season.

Still the temporary replacement (I forgot who did the replacement voice...oops!) was REALLY off.

There's always a "Rhoda" reunion special.
