The International Union Against Cancer analyzed 400 episodes, and found 795 instances of smoking on the show. Only 35% was smoking portrayed in a negative way.

The IUAC must have had their sarcasm detectors turned off when they were watching ths show. All the smokers on the Simpsons are depicted as decrepit, unhappy, unhealthy, people. And this is correlated with their smoking. And the viewer is supposed to be intelligent enough to figure this out. Too bad the IUAC is not intelligent enough to realize this.
