REVIEW: A-minus - not one of the better "tales" episodes, thanks
        mainly to the copout "Ghostbusters" ending, but still better
        than most of the same old stuff that's aired for the past few
        years.  For some reason, they seem to be able to pack more
        jokes in if they can keep the stories short and separate.

REFERENCES "The Odyssey" "Hamlet" Styx (music playing during the trip on the river Styx) "Grease" ("Greece is the word") Jeff Foxworthy ("You might be a Viking") "Friends" (Marge changes sad endings to stories the way Phoebe's aunt did)

GOOFS / FREEZE FRAME / WHATNOT The "Union Jack" didn't exist during the Hundred Years War. (In fact, weren't Scotland and France allies?)

Weren't the Sirens on Scylla (now known in English as Sicily), which is in the opposite direction from where the "Crazy Islands" appeared?

Scylla was a six-headed monster that Odysseus chose to face rather than risk the loss of his ship and crew to the whilrpool Charybdis.

I took the reference as a pure site gag.

France also didn't start losing battles and wars until Waterloo and there was still a "Victory? we don't even have a word for that, we're French!" reference thrown in.

Clearly thrown in for comic value.

Don't know much about it, but I don't think you really need me to explain the modern day reference to France's incompetence in war over the last 160+ years to get the "Victory" reference in the Simpsons the other night...

Some of the references sometimes are "far-fetched" is that how you spell the word, I don't know.

I could go either way on this, but on "Friends" Phoebe's aunt had never let her see the ending of Bambi. And Marge kept the ending of Bambi from her kids as well. It could just be a coincidence though.
