well, one of the inspirations for the late Phil Hartman's character Troy McClure has himself passed on.
I just heard on the radio that ruggedly handsome actor Troy Donahue, whose biggest role was in the 1959 film "A Summer Place" opposite Sandra Dee, has passed away in hospital.
Troy is probably best known for that role, but his career up to 1966 included roles in the TV series "Hawaiian Eye" . And, like our Mr. McClure, he wound up having a waning career afterwards, making a variety of cheapie direct-to video films like "The Merchants of Venus", "Bimbo Movie Bash", "I Was A Teenage Sex Mutant", and "Assault Of The Party Nerds". He also had a small bit part in "The Godfather Part II", and had auspicious roles in two of John Waters' films: "Polyester" (in which he starred opposite Waters' regular actor, the 300 lb transvestite Divine, whom he would work with again in the film "Lust In The Dust") and "Cry-Baby".
Troy was married and divorced four times, one of whom was Suzanne Pleshette. At one point in the early eighties he was homeless and living on the streets in New York, but managed to bounce back, teaching acting classes on a cruise line.
