Homer able to read?

In that episode when homer meets kim Basinger and whats-is-facehe says he can't read and just recongnized the logo on that label? We see homer reading in MANY other episodes, how Is this possible wothout the effects of a wizard?!

So there you go -- it was the first thing that popped into Homer's head when pressed for a phony secret. He probably thought it was really clever, too.

Because the writers in the past few years are so stupid that they think having some character say, "I can't read" is somehow hilarious.
