I am wondering if these are bootlegged cells or if the pic of Homer or Lisa is real while the background is not. Has anyone seen these before? I am not interested in buying any but they still intrigue me.

Because there are usually hundreds of cels for every background, and because backgrounds are often retained for future use, animation cels are almost never sold with their original background. Because the cels look fairly unimpressive without a background, a print of the background, or of another background is added.
The auction text states that this is the case here: the background is a "complimentary print", while the cel is "numbered, with pegholes" and "authenticated". I can't vouch for the authenticacy of anything sold online, but imagine that they are probably authentic. If it wasn't, then this would be fraud.
If you look closely at the backgrounds, you can see that they don't look at all like Simpson's backgrounds. They probably aren't. They might have been produced specifically for a large series of cels, or might come from the cel trading companies files of stock backgrounds. Frankly, the cel with Homer looks like the cel is from the Smurfs.

Note that here we have an X-Men production cel on the -same- background as Homer. It looks even more ridiculous behind Wolverine than behind Homer.

cool thanks for the info... I guess that means that there are two cells here and that one of them is the good one and one is just a generic background that is not used for anything in the show. I guess I was kinda thrown off from the little caption above the cell that had non-existent plotlines from the show (or maybe season 14 stuff???)
