Simpsons ethics.

Do you think that matt groening and the other creaters of the simpsons are cruel? I mean, when you see what they do to Gill and Hans moleman, it makes you wonder if they have feelings at all? any input?

No I don't think they're cruel, if they were they wouldn't bring joy to so much people by making 'the Simpsons' I *do* think they're thorougly sarcastic and cynical in real life.

They are only cartoon characters, one can hardly be cruel to non-entities.

I won't watch "America's Funniest Home Videos" or whatever it's called because they aren't funny. They are real people being hurt, and only incidentally do the events get captured on screen.

Fiction is often funny because you know it's not real. One of the funniest scenes I've ever seen is in Woody Allen's "Bananas" where Woody slams a locker door on a co-workers hand (and it may be in that one too that Woody steps out of his car and right into a manhole). It's funny because it's so blatantly done. Since it's fiction, I don't give it a second thought. But in real life, I've had doors closed on my fingers, have done it to others, and it hurts.

So basically nothing on the Simpson's can be cruel to me. I suspect I "allow" the show even more leeway than other fictional TV shows and movies because being a cartoon it's even a step further away from realism.
