But he brings up a good point. If the power is out, unless the studio itself has a backup generator, how is it lighting the studio, filming, and broadcasting? (the joke's on them...if there's a meltdown, there won't be any power left to light the sign!)

Nah. That I found funny, cause the local station is about as bright as the rest of Springfield: using a generator (likely), they continue to broadcast. Just like when Krusty used the old transmitter when nobody would be watching! (During the episode where Bob Terwilliger gets the H-Bomb)
