I do not know about you people; but I believe that many Simpson characters are based on real people or characters from other tv shows or movies.
For example: Krusty the Clown: Pee Wee Herman Dr. Hibbert: Cliff Huxtable from the Cosby Show Mayor Quimby: A composite of the Kennedy brothers. Rainer Wolfcastle: Arnold Schwarzenegger Proffesser Frink: Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professer. Mr. Burns: Citizen Kane.

Right, Bob Bell the ONLY Bozo in my book. I grew up watching Bozo's Circus (not the later The Bozo Show) as did my peers. To us it was obvious that Krusty was a perverted copy of Bozo. I think Bob Bell finally passed away a few years ago. I remember when he retired, probably about 15~20 years ago. It was a BIG deal. He really was a tremedous talent.
Cookie stayed on when they replaced bozo... You could tell he hated playing second fiddle to the no-talent bozo fill in. His replacement never got the laugh down and was never able to spin the baton.
