The fat, bald guy in the Simpsons has a wife who is a slender-looking, matter of fact/voice of reason... Hey, wait >>the Family Guy's wife just happens to be very similar. The Simpsons have a daughter, a son and baby....hey, wait...so does the Family Guy... The show, The Simpsons, uses sharp wit, sarcasm, slapstick and many cultural references in their episodes..Doesn't The Family Guy....
I guess looking at the show's dates would be too much effort for you. Obviously you weren't even born when the simpsons was first aired.

Actually, I spotted a joke that Family Guy copied from The Simpsons. In Stuck Together, Torn Apart, where Peter supposedly keeps getting free samples by dressing up in ludicrous disguises, but then it turns out it's people who look like Peter dressed like that. It's the same joke as the Guy Incognito bit from the Simpsons episode Marge's Fear Of Flying.
I'm sure there's plenty that can be pointed to as copying from both sides. Or it could be people with a similar sense of humour making similarish programmes, and coming up now and then with similarish jokes.

Let's face it. If you broke down every show on television by simple demographic descriptions of the main characters, you'd only have about five different sitcoms in the past couple years (with some minor variances). The description of a fat, loudmouth in his 30s married to a skinny attractive voice of reason, with three kids is pretty vague.
While I'm not saying Family Guy doesn't have a lot of (probably intentional) similarities to the Simpsons, but I don't think it's ripping them off. I don't say every show with six 20-something singles of both sexes that hang out is a rip off of Friends.
Television executives take winning ideas and copy them. It's been that way since the first hit show and will be that way until the end of television.
...but the U.S. TV critics sure like to. It really pissed me off that many critics here blasted Coupling as a Friends ripoff that was just vulgar and poorly written. That is so far from the truth. The American version of Coupling did suck big time, but the British version is excellent. They mainly used the same scripts, even. (Why did U.S. Coupling suck? Bad acting and casting; I'm glad it was canceled already.)
So true. And in the case of Family Guy, the show was supposed to be a spoof of family sitcoms. How could it be that without copying the format of many family sitcoms? You can't be 100% original and parody at the same time.

Okay...First off, when I saw the subject line "When will The Simpsons stop ripping off Family Guy?", it was somehow lumped together in "The Simpsons" Google groups..so I didn't mean to rain on your Family Guy group. In any event, that's what annoyed me. Although "Family Guy" is unique in it's own way, the similarities I mentioned in other post are striking because of the fact that both shows are in the same GENRE; primetime animated/adult/sarcastic/slapstick/comedy/etc. (Not an official genre name here :P). It's just that The Simpsons were the first to lay down that format/style. And I see now that the poster was most likely referring to show content and not general similarities of the shows like I mentioned before. Sorry, felt the need to rant, :D A direct example of "ripping off" simpsons was when peter was playing black jack at atlantic city. It was pretty much the same gag as homer, from brother from the same planet.
But you know what i say, BIG F*****N DEAL. And to the simpsons ripping of the family guy death thing (which i also noted) it was also a parody of the santa clause.
At least Family Guy makes refs to stuff thats timeless like david letterman, not stuff that wont make sense in 10 yrs like ross perot, harry potter, and joe millionaire.

Family Guy is funnier than The Simpsons. Period.
Although The Simpsons might get a few laughs out of me, their writers are running out of ideas and are thus coming out with garbage to hold its still loyal fans. Family Guy is much funnier than The Simpsons, which can be easily spotted. In every episode of FG (Family Guy) I have seen, I have at least laughed once. In TS (The Simpsons), I try to laugh, trying to fool myself into thinking I did not just waste half an hour of my life watching pure, unadulterated garbage. Sure, TS may be the longest running cartoon, or whatever it is, but let's face it. It's time another cartoon take its place at the top because it seems as though FG has the fans backing it, seeing as how it MIGHT come back, after being cancelled.
I'm not taking anything away from TS, it is a great show, or was a great show, but FG is much funnier.

Simpsons is comparable to many old shows on tv too, and could be claimed to have ripped them off..
Simpsons was an influence of family guy, but so have a lot of shows. Family guy has had some gags similiar, but then simspons have done likewise in the latest seasons. I remember thinking of one earlier but it has slipped my mind..
I have written music that sounds similiar to the bands i listen, doesn't mean i ripped them off, just means i have written something in the same style. I think it works the same with tv shows too.
My conclusion, i think to claim either it ripping off the other is a pretty big and assumptious claim.
