The most original one in years!

And a prelude to an excellent episode overall. Good plot and subplot, good relationship between Marge and Bart. Any episode with Apu singing Paula Cole karaoke gets a MINIMUM of a B+ grade from me. This one gets... an A. Good show.

I thought another Halloween episode was coming on. We thought that maybe they had considered this couch gag for the THOH, but rejected it and decided to use it somewhere else. I mean, the music at the end sounded very THOH-ish.

Gumby has never been shown in Britain...

Gumby was a toy. I was always under the impression the toy proceeded the tv show, but I don't know what I base that on.

It was a rubber toy sort of shaped like a person (ie a head, arms and legs) but quite a distinctive shape. There was wire inside the body, so it could be shaped, and was green. There was a horse, I forget the name that was similarly fashioned.

The show was stopanimation, ie 3d objects posted while the camera takes a frew frames, then moved a tiny bit before a few more frames are shot. I think they used clay for the figures, but I'm not certain. The show dates from the early sixties.

Come to think of it, I think the horse's name was Pokey.

Eddie Murphy on Saturday Night Live did a Gumby impression a number of times in the eighties, and just this weekend there was a show remembering that era of SNL, and we saw a snip of Murphy doing GUmby, with Joe Piscepo doing a Gumby impression along with him.

Think of how that show would have been improved vastly if they just kept using the same model. We could watch Gumby crumble and/or melt.

Gumby was a blue claymation thing, wierd it wasn't in the UK we got it here in NZ.
