Maybe it was in the film, or it was on the show but I thought he died, his tombstone said something like "Goodbye everybody!" so why was he alive on this week's episode?

But I read that prior to the movie's release, they'd follow from the movie in terms of continuity. They didn't follow through. Then again, they never made reference to the fact that Springfield was under a dome, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Sounds reminiscent of the old John Carpenter classic sci-fi film 'Dark Star', when a crew member had to go outside and try and persuade a cybernetic planet-busting bomb stuck on the launch pad that the order to explode it had received was a malfunction.
