Usually I can help with questions about quotes, but this time I'm stuck. My friend and I were discussing something and he said "Well that didn't work very well at all" This reminded us of some quote, possibly by Skinner... yet after thinking all day about it, neither of us could come up with a situation. Any suggestions?
Well that didn't work...

I vaguely remember that, too. It was a trial; someone is nearly proven innocent, until s/he does something very incriminating.

Sweepings Fist : It's not just a noun, it's a verb.

Yeah. Seems like the obvious answer, doesn't it? I thought about it... but, for some reason, it didn't click.

Except I believe the words were "Well, that didn't go well at _all_". Said by the prosecutor/lawyer/whoever.
Freddy Quimby's lawyer said it after Quimby threatened, "i'll kill you! i'll kill all of you, especially those of you in the jury!"
response: "well that didn't go very well at all"
My
Of course, how could I be so dumb. It was the lawyer at the trail of Freddy Quimby in the Boy who knew too much. Thanks Rack.

You're welcome; but, don't thank me. You should be thanking your _brain_. Thank the Earth's gravitational pull. By that I mean, "Hung Like A Tuna Can" came up with the ep.

Well thank you Tuna guy (even though I read Rack's post and put it together before reading his post, but all help is appreciated.) It's nice to know people care... So this is what it's like when doves cry.
Wasn't "Well that didn't work..." from The Joy of Sect when Rev. Lovejoy said to Wille: "Well that didn't work, Mr. Kilt!"?

Sure Hung Like a Tuna Can came up with the answer but it was The Rack that thought of charging $6.50 for it.

The "flames" referring to the "Flaming Gumby"... What? It's a "Flaming Gumby". "Flaming Gumby"
that
Actually I was Pattys' date the night of the slideshow (but was off camera) and I invented the "Flaming Gumby" then. Homer stole the recipee from me that evening. ;o) Actually it's from the debate between Quimby and Side Show Bob during the election. When they show Quimby drowsy and sweating, channel 6 puts a ring of flames around him and puts up that disclaimer.

Yeah... I remember the reference. The "Flaming Gumby" thing was just an attempted segue between "Flaming Moes" (the ep you quoted) and your sig.

Indeed it was - thanks to all who helped.
In addition to The Boy Who Knew Too Much, it could also be from Homer's Phobia.
Homer: That's a good start. Let's get you a pack. What's your brand?
Bart: Anything Slim!
Homer (to himself): (two annoyed grunts, but not D'oh) Okay, that didn't work.
