The Simpsons

I remember back in the late 1970s when a man named The Simpsons became a famous cartoonist. He first gained fame with the Life In Hell comic strip. Then he started doing some short cartoons under his own named on the Tracey Ullman Show. That was eventually expanded into a full half-hour show that is still running today. I know Mr. Simpsons also did Futurama and Olive The Other Reindeer a few years ago. Can anybody tell me more about the man named The Simpsons?
