I am a fan, buff and connoisseur of this unparalleled comedy-cartoon.
The daily newspaper cartoon "Dagwood" and/or "Blondie" had a movie(s) version.
I suppose most of ye are too young for "Blondie and Dagwood." But I betcha a young Matt Groening was impacted.
There was Mr. Dithers of Dithers Construction Company as the boss, Bumstead was their surname, Daisy was their dog with pups, Alexander was their boy kid, Kathy (?) the girl kid, and Herb the next door neighbor.
It's not too hard to envision a play and/or a movie version of the cartoon.
Miss Peggy, Kermit the Frog and Big Bird all originally of Sesame Street have had both movie and other non-Sesame Street television versions a la "The Muppets Do Manhattan."
So, I am looking forward to the further "industrialization" (what a hideous word) and exploitation.

For the industrial-exploitation example, I have a now faded Simpsons beach towel, a music album, and see the Bart & Homer in the Butterfingers advertisements.
Like Homer's stomach, I crave Bugtterfingers and sugar.
Thus: The Simpsons too inevitably become what they so wonderfully, insidiously and incisively mock, trash, satirize, lampoon and parody.
So, it is not such a leap to a movie composed of human characters--or as simply an expanded tv cartoon(s)--or to a musical play which may or may not make it out of New Haven.
They had a terrific cartoon self-satirizing themselves getting so big & famous.
The Beatles had their "Yellow Submarine" cartoon movie.
