No Outside Suds?

Hi, in the newest episode, does anyone know why Homer brought a thermos of beer to Moe's? How does drinking his own beer save money? I don't understand.

Maybe Moe's prices aren't exactly MSRP.

Bringing things from home is traditionally cheaper, either because you make it yourself (people do make beer at home) or because you buy in bulk. For that matter, even buying in single serving form is often cheaper when bought at a grocery store or warehours store, compared to buying at a corner store (where you pay for the convenience).

Since I don't drink beer, I have no idea if bars charge the same price as when you buy it at a store.

It depends on the bar, but usually (even at the cheaper bars) it is still more expensive than if you went and bought a case yourself at the Bottle-o.

What beer is 6 bucks a 6 pack?! Here (Australia) it's like $14-15 for a six pack, unless you wanna drink something that tastes like piss.... Although if you buy a case it's usually half that price.

No, I didn't think about that. Possibly why it's dearer here though I guess. I'm in NSW, which is the most heavily taxed state in OZ, so perhaps this does have something to do with it. Lousy state government.

Homer drinks Duff....Duff at Moe's was 2 bucks a glass 10 years ago...I'm sure it's gone up. The price is equivalent to the Macrobrews like Bud, Miller and Coors...

I've never seen beer for more than 10 bucks for a 6 pack...Sierra Nevada is 6.99 at Kroger...

The glasses I have at home seem to be the same as at every bar around here - 12 oz (355 mL). Occasionally they'll have 16 oz. glasses (473 mL).

Maybe it's an American thing...but beer costs at least 3 times as much in a bar here as it does from the store. Hell, I've seen bars selling Sam Adams for 7 bucks a bottle...when it's like 7 bucks for a six pack...

That's why most of my bar drinking consists of hard liquor...

Ok...seems similar to here. Most people here will have a "Schooner" which is 425mL, and costs anywhere between $2.40 and $3.50 (although some places may charge more I guess). Personally I think $2,40 is cheap (You get that if your a member of a club and it's happy hour), $3.00 is normal and anything over $3.20 I consider expensive.

It has recently gone up. When I turned 18 (legal drinking age here), $3.00 schooners were expensive, now (only 4 years later), $3.00 is reasonable.

Beer also comes in "middies" , which are 285mL. But that's usually what old people, women or tight-arses drink ;-) lol The middy is also what the governemt legally considers as 1 standard drink.

Nah, I think that's pretty much the case worldwide. Some bars here charge ridiculous prices for drinks. I went out one night with some friends to a cocktail bar and was paying $4.00 for MIDDIES (the small ones!). Just because it was the "hip" place to be. You pay for the surroundings in many places, and the drinks are actually a rip off.

Hehehehe - a good way to get drunker, quicker ;-) What I sometimes do is to have a few drinks at home first, so you don't need to buy as many when you're out. This is handy when going to those "hip" places where you need a bank loan for a shout.

Anyway, I've more than likely bored you all to tears now, so I'll end by saying:
