Cuts in "Bart the Daredevil"

I may be confused about exactly which part you're talking about, but I just saw this episode on the Comedy Network and here is what happens:

1) He goes off the gorge on the skateboard. 2) He doesn't make it, and starts falling. 3) He eventually gets lifted by helictoper, and his head continuously hits the side of the gorge. 4) He gets loaded into the ambulance. 5) The ambulance starts driving, but crashes into a tree. 6) The back doors open up and Homer falls out while on the stretcher.

I think you are talking about 5) and 6), and I clearly saw them. This was the episode (Bart the Daredevil), not the clip show that features only the stretcher scene.

I just watched it on the DVDs and it's not in mine either, in spite of the fact that it's on the syndication version.. I have it until the 6 above, but instead of showing Homer's ride down the cliff the second time, it shows a bunch of characters leaning over the edge while the sound of him falling is played..

Syndication _additions_?? What gives? That's kinda wierd. does anyone have any ideas?

(I should stress that I mean normal ideas, not made up ones. :-) )

I just watched the commentary on this ep., and they made it sound like they had intended to show Homer's second fall down the cliff with the stretcher hitting him at the end, but it got cut before the show aired...

Not a syndication addition. As Jouni already said, the second fall was added in the first clip show (you can tell by looking at the different style of animation).

Really? Huh. I was always under the impression that they recycled part of the clip of his first fall down the gorge. I'll have to get the DVDs to check it out again.

Do they still show him bleeding after the second fall?

Hmm. I've been looking around a bit, and my impression is that there may have been two versions of this episode, both of the same length. One version has the one we have on DVD, with the frozen shot of the kids watching as Homer falls for the second time.

However, another version I've heard of, and one that I seem to recall vaguely, recycles the clip of his first "bump and grind" fall _again_ for his second fall. So instead of the long frozen shot of the kids watching, we see Homer again banging on the cliffs (a short clip taken from his first fall)---then we see a shorter shot of the kids watching.

I don't know if this is true, however. Watching the DVDs, it SEEMS like nothing is really cut, and that the DVD version is truly the original airing.

Okay--I managed to find a recording of this episode I taped off TV about 3 years ago. There are no differences between the DVD version and the one I have on tape. I'm sure there are theories that some syndicated airings use an "edited" version, but if that's the case, this might as well be the official version if this is the version most people have seen.

In the FIRST Fox network airing (Dec 6 1990): Homer was seen tumbling down the cliff upon his first fall. His second fall was not included. (The first broadcast was cut short to make room for the music video "Do the Bartman," which aired that night immediately after the episode.)

In SUBSEQUENT Fox network airings (Feb 28 1991, Aug 29 1991, Jul 1 1993, and Jan 8 1995): Homer was seen tumbling down the cliff upon his first fall. Upon his second fall, Homer could only be *heard* falling, as the video only showed the kids watching him tumble down from the cliff's edge.

In syndication: same as subsequent Fox network airings.

In all network and syndicated airings of the episode "So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show" (#9F17), this scene was included, except that for 9F17 *itself,* the producers created *brand new animation* which *replaced* the still visual of the kids with *new footage* of Homer tumbling during the second fall. You could tell that it was new video created just for 9F17, because the moment Homer's second fall began, the animation style changed from the rusty old season 2 flavor to the slicker season 4 variety.

I'd like to end this discussion.... After it peaked my curiosity I went back and checked my tape of the original airing (which looked horrible, btw... i'm glad I'm replacing these with dvd's!) and NO, IT DOESN'T SHOW HOMER FALLING THE SECOND TIME. I'm sure it was probably animated for the episode, but cut because it was deemed too violent by the censors or cut due to time constraints. And the second fall seen in the clip show was reanimation.
