Important question

Are Usenet newsgroups like this moderated? There are a lot of posts to this group that have nothing to do with The Simpsons, and I don't need them filling up my news server. Most of these messages are disgusting in nature and the people who post them obviously have nothing better to do with their time. Some of the messages are spam. I am referring directly to recent posts such as one about Mandy Moore, made by "Paco" at 4:49 this morning. Yahoo!'s groups can be moderated, i.e. messages can be deleted from the archives, there is the option of only allowing "members" to post, certain members can be "banned" from the group, and there is an anti-spam feature. Does Usenet have such features? If so, then somebody needs to implement these measures. Otherwise I will have to stop subscribing to this newsgroup. It's a great place to talk about The Simpsons (my favourite TV show ever), but I am sick of getting spam and disgusting messages on my server.

All I can say to those who post, such as Paco or Mark Allen Adams Jr., is GET A LIFE. I am sure I speak for many Simpsons fans when I say that your garbage belongs in another group.

I have to agree with you, that it is becoming more difficult to find real simpsons related messages, which is really unfortunate because this newsgroup seemed to become more popular and mature. I know of many newsgroups who are moderated at my university, but I don't know anything about where you might apply for alt.tv.simpsons to be moderated. While guys just Paco or Noo Moo Cow are just annoying (and probably 10 year olds posting immediately after school, thus actually having too much time on their hands), it's posts like the ones from "Eyes" that really disturb me. Mostly because they might be a reason to shut down a newsgroup like this entirely. If anyone knows any way out of this, I'd be willing to help.

Some newsgroups are moderated, and have stayed relatively free of spam and so on (depending on the moderators and the process they use).

Another alternative would be to subscribe to a company that supplies filtered access to Usenet. (Although I have to say that I'm not familiar with any such companies; I use my ISP's servers and skip over the junk.) Note that such filtering wouldn't remove all the "The Internet, eh?" type posts, however. :-)

Veteran Usenet users don't need moderated newsgroups - they do their own moderating with the killfile.

The best thing to do is learn to use filters, and never blow off about trolls like you just did. It feeds their fetishes.

Let the trolls slink away to a porn site, where they belong. We certainly don't want them here.

It's not a newsgroup, it's a mailing list, but it's spam, virus, troll, jerk and attachment free. :)
