Review: There were a lot of laughs in this episode, but they're really scraping the bottom of the barrel plotwise. Homer's quips were often too sophisticated for him. Blue hair 'n' brocco'-witch? Too many elements were recycled from earlier episodes for this to get better than a D+.

Eh, maybe, but any episode with THAT much Gil (a gold star to the writers for making him a lawyer) is pretty good. And I LIKED the fact that Homer had a few sophisticated one-liners -- the show NEEDS that level of unpredictability. It's when Homer is a jerkass 24/7 that the series suffers, IMHO.

AND the episode had nice appearances by the Comic Book Guy, Ralph, Dr. Frink and Disco Stu.

Gone Fission? World's Fattest City (pee-wee footbal)? "Homer vs. 18th amendment? They just stole the plot from the greatest episode of all time, replaced booze with sugar and put DYN's from old plotlines to fill the void.
Count Chocula? (he wasn't even an insane actor who thought he was so) Obey the Bad Guy button? The little hob-goblin sugar thing who looks like it's from Willy Wonka?
This show is more Family Guy every week.
I liked the beginning, but then it just went downhill with the banning of sugar, and the introduction of Ben Stiller as the sugar company exec. I've seen better character development on The Price is Right. Can't they get a real VOICE ACTOR instead of Zoolander? Oh, maybe I shouldn't talk until I see Mick Jagger and Lenny Kravitz!

Sweets and Sour Marge in no way resembled Lemon of Troy.
I might agree with you if the sugar prohibiton began at the end of the first act and if your summary of the episode weren't a gross oversimplifcation of the plot. Prohibition was the point of Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment, but in Sweets and Sour Marge it was merely a consequence of the main plot.
The Count Chocula lookalike received far too little screen time to determine if he was a real vampire or an insane actor.
It's one of those things we humans refer to as a joke.
Why are you whining about the Oompa Loompa? Homer indicated that he wanted to see one earlier in the episode.
How about refraining from talking until until after the sun ceases to produce energy through nuclear fusion?

Well, just to add to the diversity of opinions (and I don't usually post reviews), I thought this was one of the STRONGEST episodes in a long time. It was good to see Gil, Frink, Cletus, even Disco Stu, there were several laugh out loud moments, and the plot was relatively cohesive.

Sugar rush is a myth; studies have shown that fat people consume less sweets than others (fat people go for more direct access to calories and fat than sugar).
but I suppose it would have been harder to go for a potato-chip episode.

Homer does mention that the clever quotes were a group effort, and when he makes his own it was really bad. I thought the episode was hilarious! Lots of laughs throughout, good use of the side characters, great to see Gil as a lawyer. I can't wait to see this ep again!
