Tonight's episode was a classic, one of the best this season! Here's some DYNs:

- Elmo is in jail for participating in the wrong fundraiser? - Lenny's tattoo from the '96 Presidential Election? - Moe and Barney were both disguised as Dr. Hibbert? - Nelson got locked in Bart's locker with Dr. Hibbert? - When that crazy old guy was telling the Simpsons to escape at the talent show, the television was showing just an American flag, eventhough it was showing a cartoon a moment ago? - The Middle Easterns cheering about the Simpsons hating America, just like after 9/11? - There was no reference of Bart having been to France before? - The one prisoner says he was convicted of bringing weapons into the US from Canada? (Canada is often criticized for being a safe haven for terrorists) - Libertyville was never changed back to Springfield? - Hans Moleman needs a kidney? - Gil is now a drivers ed instructor? - Either Dolph or Kearney (I forget who) said "We're complex"? - Kirk sitting in front of Luann and her b/f (I forgot his name) at the Donkey Basketball Game?

No, it wasn't. Even handed political satire is not something these writers excell at, which doesn't bode well for the season finale.

No one has been imprisoned at Alcatraz for decades. But maybe the idea of Alcatraz being used for left wing political prisoners isn't so far-fetched. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and thus loved the "swim for San Francisco...I'm not made of money...swim for Oakland" joke.

No it ain't, especially under the current regime. I'm surprised they haven't thought of it yet. It's closer than Gitmo.

But, in some odd applicaton of logic, the base in Cuba is considered to not be US soil, so the regular rules don't apply. That's why those prisoners are being held there. If they'd brought them to the US, they'd either have been tried long ago, or released.

I don't understand how it is not US territory. Any US embassy is considered US territory, which gives it a level of protection. But suddenly, land rented from a foreign government which is used by the US military is suddenly not considered US territory?

No - embassies are protected under special rules of diplomacy but the land on which they sit are not extra-territorial.

But, except in the case of the prisoners, which rules apply at Guatanamo Bay, US or Cuban? If someone comes onto the base, do they call the Cuban cops, or is it done by US personel? If Cuba decides it want's the land back, is it a breach of a lease, or an invasion of US soil?

You're right, embassies aren't the same thing as US bases overseas. But US bases overseas do act like they are sovereign US territory.

The exception being with these prisoners, where suddenly they don't count.
