This evenings episode was just... Dumb. That long strewn out scene with homer dancing was really possibly the stupidest Simpson's moment ever, and the fact that homer is all of a sudden over his phobia like that is pretty silly.
Oh well. After this many seasons, you cant expect the same gold of seasons 4 or 5.

Homer started accepting people like that after John saved him. And there was that episode with Karl.

He more or less got over it in "Homer's Phobia." He liked John (strictly as a friend!) by the end of the show and even implied that it would be all right with him if Bart turned out gay. Even Homer becomes a bit more enlightened from time to time.. He went from mocking Apu's god to hosting an elaborate Hindu wedding in his back yard. He apologized for wearing the anti-immigrant T-shirt. His once bitter and obsessive hatred of Flanders has grown into a slightly strained friendship. He tolerates Lisa's vegetarianism and far left views, etc. Plus, the two gay guys had a really great apartment and he wanted to live there. :)
