SPRINGFIELD POST OFFICES Although the official First Day Of Issue postmark for the Simpsons stamps is Los Angeles, I would not be surprised if a number of people bought some stamps, put them on self-addressed envelopes, and sent them to the postmasters of post offices in all of the Springfields in the USA with instructions to put a Springfield postmark on the Simpsons-stamped envelope and send them back. (A number of post offices will do this - in fact, the USPS maintains lists of "love- related" (for example, Loveville, Maryland - usually for wedding invitations) and "Christmas-related" (for example, Santa Claus, Indiana - usually for Christmas cards, or for "letters from Santa" saying that "the elves just couldn't make enough (insert the name of that year's hot item) for everybody, so yours will be a little late") post offices for this sort of thing.)

According to the USPS website, here is the list of states with Springfields that have ZIP Codes:

There are Springfields in Idaho (83277) and Wisconsin (53176), but these post offices may be just sites that have only post office boxes (they would have their own 5-digit ZIP because every box has its own 9-digit ZIP) and may not have any actual postmarking services.

In addition, there are Springfields in Michigan (49015 and 49037) and Texas (75853), but the post offices themselves are in Battle Creek and Montalba, respectively, so there are no Springfield postmarks.

Six states do not have Springfields but do have Springvilles: Alabama - 35146 California - 93265 Indiana - 47462 Iowa - 52336 New York - 14141 Utah - 84663, 84664 Also, Arizona has a Springerville (85938) but no Springfield

There are Shelbyvilles in: Illinois - 62565 Indiana - 46176 Kentucky - 40065 Michigan - 49344 Missouri - 63469 Tennessee - 37160 Texas - 75973 Also, there are Selbyvilles in Delaware (19944 - officially Fenwick Island) and West Virginia (26236)

Note that the "first day of issue" postmark (at least the one I got on all five of the covers I received) has Homer dropping a bowling ball on his foot.

I am surprised that a state as big as CA has no Springfield, or at least some goofy Spanglish hybrid variation like "Campo del Spring" (which would fit in with Buena Park, Redondo Beach, Laguna Hills, et cetera).

Maybe by the time people got out to California, the ties weren't as strong. It was later, but also where they were coming from was the East, not England.

California does have Bakersfield, which if I remember properly was the city in "Grapes of Wrath" that set up the "border patrol" at the border of California to send people back if they didn't have enough money.

In the episode where Homer won the chopper motorcycle in the dance contest the bikers observed that "you can get here pretty easily from Bakersfield". Another nebulous reference to the actual location of Springfield.
