Acupuncture Shmakupuncture: When Abe talks about the curative effects of having skewers in him, he is referring to acupuncture. Acupuncture is a Chinese medical practice which claims to cure ills by placing needles in specific spiritual pressure points on the body. The idea is that it relieves that pressure and has curative properties. Doctors debate if acupuncture really has these properties or if it is nothing more then the placebo effect.
Media Bias: Many conservatives have leveled charges that the mainstream media outlets are biased towards liberals. Their claims are based on the fact that many reporters are registered Democrats. Many studies have shown that the media is, for the most part, pretty fair. However, some people like Anne (Evil ****) Culter, Bernie Goldberg, Bill O'Riley, Sean Hannity, etc., have made lots of money with this claim and have turned to the "Fair and Balanced" Fox News Channel. In turn it has been labeled as being biased to the right (by people like Al Franken). And sometimes with good reason, Murdoch (who is very conservative) and the editorial board have been known to have a higher degree of influence over the stories then other news organizations.
Once again we are treated to an episode about Marge's judgment, and in the end, it seems to have been the right decision. However, we are also treated to extreme immature (almost like Peter Griffen) behavior from Homer. It seems to me that Homer is being used as a foil in this case, but the trend is disturbing (possibly having to do with Scully coming back?). For the most part the jokes were good, and the satire was dead on. Overall I rate this episode a B.
