I'm not watching Large Marge, now or ever.

I just had the displeasure of seeing the preview for next weeks "Large Marge" and for the first time in 14 years, I'm not going to watch or tape an episode of the Simpsons. This 'satire' on plastic surgery, even if it had two or three intelligent jokes, can't balance off the very juvenille scenes of Marge's chest getting in the way of a cabinet door being closed, flashing Springfield, or trying to pick up Maggie (and so on).

an interesting proposal.

when the moody blues guest starred on the simpsons, i swore i'd never watch it ... long story short, my mom plays their music all the goddammned time and it gets to be beyond annoying. ah, the benfits of college. anyway, she found out they were going to be on the show before i did, and made a big scene out of it. i swore i would never see it ... it would remain the only episode i never saw.

i held out for one showing. i saw it the first time it was a rerun.

back to the upcoming episode ... i'll admit, it looks very juvenile. what's more, i'm sure "the status quo" will reign again, and marge's wacky antics will be at an end by the conclusion of the show. it seems the writers are trying to make the simpsons even more mainstream, if that's possible ... the lowest common demoninator continues to drop (puke, diarrhea, now big boobs). is it enough to boycott the show? of course, jake lennington has that choice. i'll still watch it, but i'm not expecting much ... i think "strong arms of the ma" will be much better (drug abuse ... now *there's* a topic that hasn't been beaten to death on the show ... yet ...)

it's a poor joke. jokes involving farts or boobs or whatever are funny if the actual humor is in itself funny without the added "attraction" of its content. but a lot of recent simpsons jokes of that type are only there to make people laugh because it's a "touchy" subject, or because boobs and farts in themself "radical" - it's turning into Terence & Phillip. Natural Born Kissers was an episode based entirely round one of these lowest-common-denominator joke favorite subjects, but it was tastefully done and the humor was actually clever and witty rather than bland and dumb. Large Marge looks to be full of jokes only funny because "huhhhuh, big boobs, funny shit, huhhuh"

I'm going to go into this with an open mind - I remember when I nearly shut off "Grampa Vs. Sexual Inadequacy" because of the very pruient subject matter. I'm glad I didn't though, because the end of the second act, and the entire third act, was a brilliant payoff.

If there is one quote or one split second scene that is memorable and hilarious it is worth it a 100 times over. If you dont agree then you are simply not a true Simpsons fan. Don't argue otherwise...no stop...dont argue!

People are still Simpsons fans even if they don't like everything associated with the series. They are true fans because they are familiar with the series and are capable of forming an informed opinion. People who watch antyhing with "The Simpsons" as the title aren't true fans, they're mindless sheep.
