dvd.ign.com reports that 20th Century Fox has officially announced the extras, release date, and price for the Simpsons Season 2 DVD set- and damn it if it doesn't make a good-looking DVD set even better!

Release Date (R1): June 11, 2002 Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price: $49.99US

Special Features: -Optional commentary on all 22 episodes -James L. Brooks and Matt Groening interviews -Bart's appearance at the American Music Awards with commentary -Music video short "Do the Bartman" with optional commentary -Director's cut of "Do the Bartman" -Music video short "Deep Deep Trouble" with optional commentary -How an episode is made, starring David Silverman -A look at licensing and merchandising the Simpsons -Emmy presentation (I don't know if this will be a retrospective of the shows Emmy wins, or a footage of a single Emmy win- after all, the Simpsons have 16 Emmies to their name!) -Three Nestl Butterfinger commercials -Foreign language clips (Yeah, no one liked them on the first one, but what can you do?) -Still photo easter eggs -Gallery of early drawings -Gallery of magazine covers, animation, and letters from Barbara Bush (It doesn't say, but based on the Season 1 DVD, this could be another easter egg) -Advertisement for The Simpsons Season One DVD set (Interesting marketing move on Fox's part)

There's also a picture on the site I mentioned of the cover of the set- similar to the first season, but with a diamond background instead of a vortex, and a funny couch gag-like twist on the picture of the family inside the TV.

Sounds like a good set. That's June 11 for $49.99 MSRP. More information on this story as it develops. Now we play the waiting game...

Ah, the waiting game sucks. Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos.

This was probably the biggest surprise, considering complete seasons of "The X-Files" retail for over $100 (true, you get 24 hour-long episodes plus a disc of extras per set, but I was expecting at least $60, and more like $70, for a Simpsons "retail price" - $50 retail means more like $40 in stores).

This may refer to when the Simpsons presented an Emmy (Actor in a Comedy Series at the 1990 Emmys); Lisa makes a comment about how the actors shouldn't be competing against each other, and asks the audience if they want the awards to be stopped - when nobody says anything, Homer comments, "See, they want to beat each other"; then, Bart opens the envelope, says "the winner is...Bart Simpson!", and Homer starts choking him while Marge (holding the envelope in front of her mouth the way everybody holds a mug in front of their mouths in "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday") reads the winner's name (and then the camera cuts to where the "Cheers" cast is going crazy as seven-time-in-a-row-loser Ted Danson finally wins).

The European Futurama Season 1 DVD set includes an ad for...the Futurama Season 1 DVD set.

They're not "Easter eggs" if you announce them in the press release!

If you don't say how to find them they are. I know that when I hide easter eggs I usually tell someone that I hid them so they will know to look for them.
