In the unlikely event that anyone from the show or network reads this newsgroup and is influenced by it, I'd like to request that *The Simpsons* not be cancelled.
It has been getting less good lately, but IMHO not nearly to the extent that people say it has. It's *still* better than 90% of everything else on TV.
Instead of cancelling it, just keep trying to improve the quality of the scripts. Better writing. Smarter jokes. *More* comic-book, science-fiction, retro-kitsch, and 1980s references; *less* Bible stories, fairly tales, and folk tales. Cooler guest stars--ones with long-time cult followings instead of the flavour of the month.
One other thing: Matt Groenig (and those who draw the series in his style) can't draw superheroes. The Groenig style lends itself well to algorithms of reality, such as average people or even muscular normal people, but when he/they *try* to draw in a comic-book style (for example, Radioactive Man comics), it just looks wrong. Superheroes on *The Simpsons* should only be done as normal muscular people, like Quimby's bodyguards or Rainier Wolfcastle. Aside from that, the *Simpsons* art style is actually very good--the characters are at varying degrees of cartooniness, but usually still aesthetically enjoyable, and the backgrounds and objects are often breathtakingly gorgeous (I particularly like the aerial view of the mall).
