Jon Vitti question

was there some kind of behind-the-scenes goings-on that caused Jon Vitti to stop writing when Mike Scully was exec. producer? I just noticed there is an odd gap in the list of episodes he's written which directly coincides with the Scully era. I realise this could be (and probably is) just coincedence, as he actually only wrote one episode in the final three seasons before Scully took over, but I found it odd that as soon as Al Jean became E.P., he suddenly had three episodes out after a six season absence.

Anyone shed any light on this?

Coincidence I think. He left to work on "King of the Hill" shortly after writing his last episode, but came back later.

At any rate, I don't think he left because of office politics. Most creative people get bored working on the same thing all the time, so there's just naturally some amount of turnover on writing staffs.

Vitti's first TV series job after "The Simpsons" was "The Larry Sanders Show." (I think he even won an Emmy while there.) His other credits include "King of the Hill" and "What About Joan."

yeah i know, but it was more the sudden return in season 13 that caught my attention. and actually Scully became co-executive producer in season 8, so my assumption still kinda holds up

that's interesting to know......I consider Larry Sanders to be probably the second finest (and most consistent - by far) TV show in history yet i'm not too familiar with who actually wrote for it. and in a list of my favorite episodes of the finest TV show in history (oh have a guess....) at least three of them would probably be Jon Vitti's work. he's a good guy.....

He was also one of the writers for the awful new Looney Tunes theatrical shorts that are being produced by former Simpsons writer Larry Doyle. They'll have to atone for this one day.
