Comment on episode, "Homer's ememy"

This is the Perfect Simpsons episode for me:) Every element came together perfectly:) It showed how the average person might react to the Simpson universe.

I think a lof of people who gave bad grades (like F) didn�t understand how the story was meant. It may be a cynical and mean plot but it is also well done in a certain way (but in a way not everybody likes.)

I really love this one and it is one of my favorite episodes. For some reason, I always thought it was an actual battle between Hank Azaria and Dan Castellaneta. it seems than Dan gets all credits even though Hank dose the voices for the most popular characters on the show. I'm of a couple of minds about this episode. One aspect I liked was that it showed the level of incompetence at SNPP doesn't start and stop with Homer, it goes all the way up to Mr. Burns. Witness Lenny and Carl's blase attitude towards Grimey telling them about the the rise of nuclear catastrophies at the plant since Homer's hiring. And why the heck would they have technicians working with dangerous chemicals in the cafeteria?

Grimey himself I feel overreacted towards Homer - though he was right to be angry with Homer after what happened the first day on the job. Homer, once he realized how Grimey felt, nearly bent over backwards trying to make amends, but Grimey let petty jealousy over the fact that Homer had appeared to have done so much with his life through plain dumb luck versus Grimey's having to claw his way through life cloud his attitude through the rest of the episode.

I guess what really leaves a bad taste to many was the shock ending with Grimey's death. Even I felt the writers had gone a bit too far with that. OTOH, one thing that has always been a part of this series is that life has never been pretty in Springfield - we've seen death, divorce, alcoholism, mental illness, murder and other aspects of the human condition. This is why OFF appeals to many, it's probably the best mirror of life portrayed on TV today, even among the wacky hijinks and scrapes we see in the plots.

I think many people had problems with the laughter at the end. Season 8 had a general tendency towards more sarcastic endings - Shary Boppins was killed by an airplane, Rex Banner was catapulted to death, Hans Moleman was killed in several seasons several times - but most people noticed a new (?) level of sarcasm at the end of the Grimey episode and many didn�t like it and it became a very controversial episode.

The episode tries to show the difference between Homer�s surreal world and a real world. Even the Bart subplot - where a ten year old boy buys a factory - contributes to that concept and emphasizes the difference of Homer�s world and Grimey�s world. The point of the episode was clear when Frank died (even long before) so there was no necessity for the laughter scene. I think the episode used the characters quite well but at the end it violates character integrity and it�s pretty strange to see Marge laughing during a funeral (viewers weren�t so used to such out-of-character behaviour back then.)
