Where has Homer's internal dialog with his brain gone? Those used to be highlights for me, and occurred about 3-4 times per season, but I can't even remember the last one.

It's been replaced by the Charles Nelson Reilly (sp?) gag, which seems to happen in EVERY SINGLE episode now.
That's been going on for a while. Didn't they do that in Bart's Comet?
Well, at least it does seem to have gotten a lot more frequent. I wish they would stop---it really isn't funny. Neither is the 'mmm, that's good $something!' that they've been throwing in a lot recently.

I agree that they do that way too much, and it has long stopped being funny. I still love the use of it by Edward the Penitent after being told that, "I'm afraid sorry doesn't cut it with this pope!"
It seemed marvellously inappropriate.

To me, once is too much. I didn't think there was anything remotely funny about it the first time I saw it when CNR did it, and it has gotten more and more annoying as the years have passed. The first time I saw it on the Simpsons, for me the show died that day.
