Vale Captain Adam...

I have just discovered that one of the posters here, Captain Adam, passed away on December 8th, 2007.

I wondered where he got to...

He posted erratically, with erratic thoughts - and was just plain erratic. He believed Bono was out to get him and that he was in contact with Nordic aliens, and they affected his day to day living. Seriously. But he was non-violent, and rarely (if ever ) had a bad word to say about anyone. And he loved the Simpsons a LOT. He would have only been about 33 or 34. He suffered with mental illness and apparently cystic fibrosis - I'm not sure which one caught up with him.

He was a nice guy and I liked him.

Always sad when a name you've become familiar with just fades away, I've lost a number of cyber-friends over the last 8 years. Usenet seems to attract seriously ill people I notice - maybe the inability to get around in the real world makes sitting down and clicking a far more attractive way of communicating. It certainly works for me; having just finished yet another 5 hour dialysis session, this is all I *can* do until I've had 12 hour's sleep...

Yes, quite true... Usenet is in some ways the perfect thing for those who might be house bound or worse. As you say, there are quite a lot of seriously ill people to be found, or people who for one reason or another are alone or are house bound.

I mainly like it because it isn't web based and there is no censorship whatsoever. Its a complete free for all... :)
