There tend to be a lot of injuries in the show...mostly for Homer. A couple that stand out in my mind are when he fell into the Springfield Gorge (twice) and when he was attacked by the badger in the dog house. So what is the worst injury ever shown on the Simpsons?

The one that always drives me crazy isn't even that bad. In the Homer Jay Simpson hippie episode, when Willie drinks the veggie juice and starts tripping... He makes out with the rake and gets cut all over his face.

Oh, arghhhh. I can't even watch that part. Too gruesome with all the scraping noises.
I think when Marge cut Homer's thumb off, that was pretty awful for a non THOH episode. There usually isn't blood (i.e. Homer being shot with a nail gun) but there was lots of drippy spurty blood here.
Ya know, I think that's it. Alone it wouldn't be that bad, but it's the scrapping sound effects that put it over the top. Ouch...just thinking about it again is bugging me.

Funny, I was thinking on this topic yesterday. When Homer gets embedded in the cliff by the trampoline in Bart's Inner Child, and it eventually breaks off, I couldn't help wondering how anyone would survive this. The gorge incident, fair enough, unlikely, but hitting the bottom of steep drop embedded in rock, surely he would have been crushed to death. No?

I guess that one counts. I kinda find that one disturbing though because my neighbor had that happen to him about 16 years ago and almost died.

Offhand, I would say Homer's two falls into Springfield Gorge. However, a close second might be when he put a mouthful of bees in his mouth in Call of the Simpsons.
Another runner-up would be when Homer became a boxer simply due to his ability to withstand taking multiple punches in the face.
For injuries to characters other than Homer, Scratchy the Cat has undoubtedly suffered the most numerous and most severe injuries. I don't even know where to begin listing them.

I would say one of the worst is when Bart "heals" the football kicker, who then returns to action to kick a field goal. As the ball sails through the uprights (due to the double-kick) so does the bloody lower portion of the kickers leg.

There's the episode when Homer opens the child safety company, and he sets up some tire spikes in front of the Wiggum house. Some driver hits them, goes through the windshield, and then his broken body just twitches and quivers. That's really creepy, to me.
