simpsons ref on last night's "futurama"

a hot air balloon stitched together by the mutants living beneath new new york contains pieces of old macy's thanksgiving day parade floats. among them bart's left ear/cheek and one of his legs.

That largely unfunny gag marked another largely unfunny episode of Futurama. Two weeks in a row, I didn't laugh once. Family Guy, though low-brow it was, made me LOL at least twice per ep.

Futurama used to be very intelligent and subtle humor and now it's almost like a cartoon soap opera. What the heck happened?

Hey, I'm not saying I found anything particularly funny about that Simpsons episode either.

Fact is, I was rather unimpressed, but I'm not complaining because under new exec-prod Al Jean, my opinion is he's 2-3 (I haven't yet seen "Jaws Wired Shut") and Jean's one miss was still better than any of Scully's hits.

Maybe I'll change my mind about both Futurama and Simpsons, from this past weekend, when I watch them a second time. We'll see.
