Question for my American simpsons colleagues...
I've just learned that the reason the references to Spiro Agnew went right over my head is that I'm a Canadian, and as well, he ran for the United States presidency some 16 years before I was born.
That being said, quick quiz on Canadian pop-culturefor our American friends.
What is "Trooper"?

And he had to resign, was it for tax evation? So Gerald Ford became vice president, without an election, paving the way for his presidency when it was Nixon's turn to resign.
I'm not even American, but I was born about 14 years before Agnew resigned.

I guess you skipped the lectures - Agnew was Nixon's VP for 1 1/2 terms. He never ran for president, died broke and is buried in Potter's Field in Baltimore.
