I just turned on my tv on Foxtel and found a VERY ancient epsisode of the simpsons (the one with the longer intro - where bart steals the bus stop sign in the opening credits......I think this was from season 1 or 2 or maybe both....?). It was the episode where Mr. Burns has a family picnic (a bit out of character for Burns I thought).
Homer seems more concerned about straightening out his dysfunctional family than he does in later years - maybe he figures there's nothing he can do about it and just gives up, because 10 years on, nothing much has changed....!
